All set for women in PR conference

The Institute of Public Relations and Communication Zimbabwe (IPRCZ) will hold a conference for women in public relations at the end of this month in the capital Harare.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa, will be guest of honour at the June 24 event.

Other speakers will be Faith Senam, the president of Women in Public Relations in Ghana, Sekai Kuvarika, the CEO of the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries and Patricia Murambinda, the IPRCZ president and general manager Corporate Affairs at Zimbabwe's largest brewer, Delta Corporation.

IPRCZ executive director, Proctor Nyemba, said there was a push for women in public relations to take up leadership positions.

"There is a push for diversity that is happening globally, and because of that we want to motivate women in the public relations sector to aim for leadership positions even up to board seat level.

"We want them to know that the nation is looking at them and has hope for them," Nyemba said.

He added: "People in the market don't know who the public relations people are and they don't want to put them in senior positions not just as public relations officers but also as public relation practitioner board members.

"There is a huge gap, but as an entity, we are there now to educate and to do the campaigning, such that each and every company or organisation can see whether there is a public relations practitioner present and whether there are women who are running those public relations departments."

Nyemba said after the conference, the organisation will recognise 50 most inspirational women in public relations and communication in Zimbabwe.

"We have people like Patricia Murambinda from Delta Corporation Limited and the public relation team from Seed Co Limited, among many others, who have been doing exceptionally well and will serve as a source of motivation for women country wide."
